    The wider picture

The ABS National Study of Mental Health and Wellbeing (2020-22) found that among people aged 16 to 85, 21.4% in Victoria (21.5% Australia-wide) had a mental disorder in the previous 12 months. Anxiety disorders affected 17.4% in Victoria (17.2% nationally) and affective disorders such as depression 7.6% (7.5% nationally). These are state and national figures; the study does not report them for individual suburbs. ABS source.

What these numbers do and don't mean

    • Census figures describe the suburb, not our clients. They tell you nothing about who attends our practice.
    • The Census figure is self-reported: it counts people who chose to list a mental health condition as a long-term health condition. It is not a diagnosis count, and it is not the same measure as the survey's 12-month disorder prevalence, so the two should not be compared directly.
    • Small differences between suburbs are not meaningful. Age mix, willingness to report and access to health services all influence what people record.

How we can help people in Seabrook

Seabrook is our nearest neighbouring suburb: the clinic is about 2.8 km away, roughly four minutes by car. That is close enough that in-person sessions can be fitted around a school run or a work day, and parking on site is free. It is also a family suburb, with 55.0% of families being couples with children and a median age of 37.

Only 19.7% of Seabrook homes are rented, so many households have put down roots, and settled households often carry ongoing responsibilities such as children, work and finances. People in many situations seek therapy for stress, anxiety, low mood or sleep problems. About 42.4% of residents were born overseas, and you are welcome to talk about cultural or family context if it matters to you.

Adults can see Brett Mackie in person, subject to availability. For teenagers, Natalie Bryson (provisional psychologist, supervised) sees adolescents aged 12 and over by telehealth on Fridays, so a young person can join from home without a trip. Medicare rebates apply to Brett's sessions with a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan.

Results vary between people, and we cannot guarantee any particular outcome. Your psychologist will talk through the options with you before starting.
