    Referring a patient to Change Your Mind Psychology

    This page explains who we see, what to include in a referral and how to send it. For any questions, please call reception on (03) 4252 8176.

    Availability changes from week to week. Brett Mackie is not taking new clients at the moment, so you can join his waitlist or ask reception about other options. Our provisional psychologist, Natalie Bryson, sees adolescents (12+) and adults by telehealth on Fridays (private fee, no Medicare rebate).

    Provisional Psychologist (Psychology Board-approved supervision)
    Adolescents aged 12 and over, and adults. Telehealth on Fridays, 10am to 2pm. Accepts GP referrals and Mental Health Treatment Plans, and sends GP updates.$80 private fee. Not Medicare-rebated, as there is no rebate for provisional psychologists. TAC accepted.
    • We do not offer couples or family therapy.
    • We do not currently offer ADHD or other diagnostic assessments.
    • We are not a registered NDIS provider. We see self-managed and plan-managed participants only.
    • We are not a crisis service (see below).

    What we need with a referral

    • Patient's full name, date of birth and contact details
    • Medicare card number (for patients seeking a Medicare rebate)
    • The Mental Health Treatment Plan or referral letter, dated and signed, with the referring practitioner's details
    • Reason for referral, with relevant history and any risk information
    • Current medications
    • Confirmation that the patient consents to information being shared with us
    • Preferred clinician or approach, if the patient has one
    • NDIS, WorkCover, DVA, TAC or Comcare details, where relevant

    With a valid referral, we lodge the patient's Medicare claim on the day of the appointment.

    Medicare Better Access at a glance (as at September 2026)

    • Up to 10 individual Better Access services per calendar year. The initial course is a maximum of 6 services.
    • The referring practitioner reviews the patient's need for further treatment when a course is complete.
    • For a Medicare rebate, the referral must be in writing and include the patient's details, symptoms or diagnosis, current medications, the number of services, and whether a Mental Health Treatment Plan (or psychiatrist assessment) is in place.
    • Since 1 November 2025, the Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral must come from a GP or prescribed medical practitioner at the patient's MyMedicare-registered practice, or from the patient's usual medical practitioner.
    • The eligible psychologist gives the referring practitioner a written report on assessments, treatment and recommendations when the course of treatment is complete.
    • Medicare rebates apply to services by eligible (registered) psychologists. Provisional psychologists are not eligible.

    Please do not put identifying patient details in the subject line or body of an unencrypted email. Fax or a secure method is preferred where available. If you need secure delivery options, please contact reception.

    What you can expect from us

    • We acknowledge receipt of the referral and allocate the patient to a clinician.
    • We send the referring GP a written report on assessments, treatment and recommendations when the initial course of treatment is complete, as Medicare requires.
    • We report to the referring GP again at the end of treatment.

    399 Queen Street, Altona Meadows VIC 3028 (corner of Nicholson Street). Free on-site parking. Open Monday to Friday, 8am to 5:30pm. Telehealth is available Australia-wide.

    We are not a crisis service. For patients who are urgent or at risk, please use Mercy Mental Health Triage on 1300 657 259 (24/7) or call 000.

    Public mental health services work by catchment area. If you live outside these areas, your GP or Lifeline (13 11 14) can connect you with your local triage service.
