Brett Mackie
Brett is a Registered Psychologist and the Director of CYMP. After a career in IT, Brett made the decision to pursue his passion for helping others, transitioning to psychology approximately 6 years ago. This unique background gives him a distinctive perspective on work-life challenges and the pressures of modern professional life.
Brett is passionate about using evidence-based therapeutic techniques to support clients experiencing trauma, anxiety, and a range of psychological challenges. He is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), an evidence-based approach for processing traumatic experiences.
Brett has integrated Virtual Reality Therapy into his practice, using immersive technology as part of treatment for phobias, PTSD, and anxiety disorders. His training in Clinical Hypnosis provides another evidence-based tool for supporting therapeutic change.
Brett believes in a collaborative, client-centred approach where each person's unique needs and goals guide the therapeutic journey.
Third-Party Funders: Brett accepts clients funded through WorkCover, DVA (Department of Veterans' Affairs), TAC (Transport Accident Commission), and Comcare. He also sees self- and plan-managed NDIS participants (not a registered NDIS provider). No gap fees are charged for third-party funded clients.

Before the Session: You'll receive intake forms via email to complete before your appointment. This helps Brett understand your background and concerns.
During the Session (50–60 minutes):
- Brett will welcome you warmly and explain how the session will work
- You'll discuss what's brought you to therapy and your goals for treatment
- Brett will ask about your history, current challenges, and what you've tried before
- Together, you'll explore which therapeutic approach might work best for you (EMDR, VR therapy, hypnosis, or talk therapy)
- There's no pressure to share more than you're comfortable with
After the Session: Brett will summarise initial impressions and discuss a suggested treatment plan. You'll schedule your next appointment and receive any relevant resources.
